Ole Miss Ballroom Dance Club

More Dancing Opportunities

Several members of the Ole Miss Ballroom Dance Club have been practicing their skills and learning new ones over the course of the summer.  The Dance Studio in Tupelo, MS has several opportunities to better your ballroom.  Beginner and intermediate group classes are offered on Tuesdays and Fridays.  You can also enjoy yourself Friday nights at the weekly themed dance parties.

If Tupelo is too far of a drive, new opportunities for lessons are coming to Oxford!  Stephanie Betts of University Ballroom will be teaching group and private lessons at Orion Fitness on University Avenue.  As in Tupelo, lessons will be geared for beginner and intermediate dancers.

7:00 p.m  Newcomer Class - First time ballroom dancers
7:45 p.m  Next Step Class - No longer a beginner, but not quite intermediate either
 8:30 p.m.  Intermediate/Advanced Class

For more information on Tupelo's The Dance Studio or Oxford's University Ballroom, contact Stephanie Betts at (662) 842-2242.

Benefit Ball

APRIL 19 is the annual North Central Mississippi Realtors BENEFIT BALL featuring the live dance music of Hunter and the Gators.  This gala social event will be held at the University Club just off the Square in Oxford for the benefit of the Medical Ministries Clinic.  Tickets are $35 per person and dress is black tie optional.  Do not sit this one out.  For info, contact Michael Danahy at 915 7712 or email: mldanahy@bellsouth.net.  Mary Ann Dillon at 662-607-2635.  Our club members Peter and Kathy Sukanek and Stephanie Betts are doing showcase dances and Michael Danahy will have some tickets on hand at our April 12 dance.

Afterthoughts

A huge thank you to all of the people that helped make our workshop a success!  We had a nice sized crowd that spanned the spectrum of dancing abilities.  David Cox and Stephanie Betts provided phenomenal instruction that was tailored to the various levels and abilities of dancers present.  One of the largest lessons I learned during the workshop was transference.  Dance steps, technique, lead/follow relationships easily transfer from waltz to foxtrot to night club two-step.  With each lesson, we grow in our skills and abilities; with each monthly dance, we grow in our friendships.  Certainly, new friendships were founded, and old ones were deepened.  We all look forward to the next opportunity to forge friendships and sharpen skills.

Smooth Dance Workshop

With great anticipation, we wait for our upcoming smooth dance workshop.  Instructors from Dance Quest of Tupelo will teach beginner/intermediate level lessons in Waltz, Foxtrot, and Night Club Two Step at Johnson B. Commons Ballroom on the University of Mississippi Campus.  The workshop will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008.  Members will be charged a fee of $10 which will include access to all three lessons!  What a bargain!  Non-members can join at the door to receive the exclusive member's discount (membership dues are listed on the home page).  Otherwise, the cost will be $15 per class.  The schedule is as follows:

Happy Holidays

A wonderful time was had by all at our recent Christmas Formal on December 15.  Ladies and gentlemen all looked spectacular in their formal wear.  We really enjoyed the festive showcase dance, and the fancy treats were delicious.  OMBDC would like to wish you happy holidays.  Continue working on your waltz; join us January 19 for our smooth dance workshop.

Reflections and Anticipations

What a great time we had dancing to the sounds of Keith and Margie Brown!  The music kept us up and moving, and the vocals were superb!  But, we weren't the only ones who benefited from their hits.  Keith commented that he felt as though he was playing for "Dancing with the Stars!"  We wish the Browns well and hope to dance to their beats again, soon.

December brings the anticipation of our Christmas Formal.  Dress in your dressiest, and enjoy "heavy hors d'eouvres" as we waltz our way into the holidays.  David Cox will be teaching the waltz so that we can all trip the life fantastic.

Live Band for November 10th Dance!

Come dance to the rythym and music of Keith and Margie Brown.  Live "Rock and Soul" music of yesterday and today will provide opportunities to try out the moves learned from last month's East Coast Swing lesson.  During the band breaks, traditional ballroom music will be played allowing you to practice a full range of dances throughout the night.  Just as a reminder, we will be back at the Johnson Common's Ballroom for this month's dance.  Hope to see you there!
